Oil and Gas Monitoring and Security
Tank Battery Security – Most tank battery sites in the U.S. and other oil producing countries are not secure.
Most have no fences and have either traditional mechanical lock/key systems on custody transfer valves to which almost everyone who
has ever been to the site has a copy. The RSS security system offers a way to significantly improve security with a combination
of motion sensors, video surveillance, and a unique locking collar that controls access to oil custody transfer and water valves.
The RSS system will significantly improve security at tank battery sites, equipment and pipe storage yards, as well as providing
significant data to improve efficiency and reduce operating cost. We specialize in providing security in remote locations.
Providing Internet Access – Our system is made to work with satellite, cellular or hard wired internet
providers. RSS will work with each customer and help in determining what service is appropriate for the location. Internet
access with enough bandwidth to provide a significant amount of video streaming can be provided from almost any location, no matter how
remote, at a cost ranging from $70 to $130 per month.
Web Based Software – Users enter an ID and Password to obtain access to all data and the video library on a
secure server. The software provides real time information on tank levels, custody transfer, production, flow, pressure, and other
systems being monitored. Camera access is built into the software for easy access to view live or review pictures/video stored in
the video library.
IP Video Surveillance – A high resolution Pan, Tilt, Zoom camera (PTZ) can be installed at each tank battery site that
will record all activity at a site. The camera can be pre-programmed to automatically take pictures on any time interval; as
frequently as once every few seconds to once a day. In conjunction with a highly effective motion sensor, the camera will
automatically take pictures anytime there is activity at the site. A user can also access the camera and direct it live as well
as snap pictures or record video manually. All pictures and video are stored in the RSS web library providing a permanent time
and date stamped record of all events that occur at the site. This camera has tremendous zoom capability and is a very effective
tool for theft prevention.
Mobile Video Surveillance Trailers – Also if there is a need to monitor sites on a short term basis RSS has available
mobile video trailers for lease or purchase. Each mobile video trailer is tailored to meet customer requirements. Basic
equipment includes a satellite dish, a camera tower, a high resolution PTZ camera and a cabinet that houses the electronics. Solar
power is available for locations that have no power. If power is available it is plug-and-play. This unit has video streaming
capacity that is basically unlimited with speeds up to 500 MB/s upstream. Assembly and setup generally takes 2-4 hours.
Custody Transfer Locking Collar – A heavy duty metal wireless locking collar has been developed that will control
access to the manual valves that control the flow of crude oil or water to tanker trucks. This collar is intrinsically safe, and is
constructed out of heavy gauge steel. It is made to fit over existing manual valves that are in use in oil fields today. In
order to unlock the collar and access the valve, an authorized user must enter an active code in a keypad, or if management does not want
to issue codes, the locking collar can be unlocked remotely by the software after the user calls in via cellphone to obtain access.
In conjunction with the video camera system that RSS offers, all unlock events that occur at the site can be recorded.
Crude Oil and Water Tank Level Monitoring – RSS uses micro-powered pulse radar sensors located on each tank that
transmits data to a central controller. This intrinsically safe system is accurate to within .5 % of the probe length on any type of
tank and is excellent for monitoring the level in crude oil and water tanks up to 40 foot depths. Tank level data is displayed on
our web based software, is real time, and can be viewed from anywhere there is internet access. Depending on terrain, data from
tanks that are several miles apart may be sent to a central internet access location. This system eliminates the need for pumpers to
climb tanks and take manual inventory levels and will reduce the cost associated with storage and will improve cash flow. Through our
innovative software, information is provided on custody transfer, daily production, oil/water ratios, and instant alerts and notifications
on tanks that are near full or that have had abnormal or sudden changes in levels. This system is wireless and is extremely easy to
install. Most sites can be completed in a day. This is a low cost solution to monitoring crude oil and water tank levels.
Water Disposal Well Monitoring – An in line wireless electronic water flow meter can be installed on the flow line to
disposal wells or on the pipe used to fill trucks. This meter is accurate to within 1% and provides real time data on current GPM and
on accumulative gallons going into disposal wells or into a tanker truck. The software provides the ability to easily and accurately
record water disposal as well as the ratio of water/oil from wells that feed a tank battery site.
Water Disposal Well Security – Our system is highly effective to control access to salt water disposal wells.
The RSS valve locking collar can be installed over the valve that must be opened in order for water to be pumped from a truck into the
disposal well. This collar is wireless, intrinsically safe and is constructed out of heavy gauge steel. It is made to fit over
existing manual valves that are in use in oil fields today. In order to unlock the collar and access the valve, an authorized user
must enter an active code in a keypad, or if management does not want to issue codes, the locking collar can be unlocked remotely by the
software after the user calls in via cellphone to obtain access. In conjunction with the video camera system that RSS offers, all
unlock events that occur at the site can be recorded.
Monitoring Wellhead Pressure and Flow – Pressure sensors can be installed on wells and on flow lines. This
also is a wireless system that can monitor specified pressure ranges and notify management immediately if pressures are outside of the
specified ranges. This is a great tool for management to monitor well performance, improve well uptime, and to be immediately
notified if there is rupture in a flow line.
Displaying Data from Existing 4-20 mA Interfaces – If there is existing electro mechanical devices, such as those
that have 4-20 mA interfaces and may be monitoring pressure, flow, or other parameters, our wireless system can interpret and transmit the
data to a base unit where internet access is available. The data can then be displayed through the RSS software providing users the
ability to monitor the devices remotely. As a rule data from any number of devices can be interpreted and displayed with a line of
sight range of the up to 30 miles. This provides the capability to access data from a variety of input devices from a large area
surrounding the site where internet access is established, such as at a tank battery site.
Long Range Ethernet Radio System – As with the custom interface reporting capability, RSS has developed a long range
WIFI system that can extract data from any device in the field that has Ethernet connectivity. This system, like the RSS radio system,
can extract data from a device such as a well monitoring system, interpret the data, and display it via the software. This system has
a range of up to one mile and therefore can provide internet access capability for a large area in the field. This long range
WIFI system provides the capability to install video cameras in multiple locations and to stream video to a central internet access point.
No Power, No Problem – Most features of the RSS system has very low power requirements and can be powered from a
small solar panel.
